Knitting Yarn — Yurtseven Tekstil

What is knitting yarn?

Knitting yarn is used on knitting machines to form loops and create stretchable fabric. Key requirements are a count that suits the machine gauge, smooth feeding and resistance to breakage during knitting. Fancy-effect knitting yarns add texture, volume and visual richness to plain knits.

What matters when choosing knitting yarn?

  • Count vs. gauge: finer yarns for fine gauges, bulkier yarns for coarse gauges.
  • Fibre content: cotton, wool, acrylic or blends depending on season and product.
  • Colour consistency: no shade difference between lots in bulk production.
  • Package quality: even cones that reduce machine stops.

Knitting Yarn: Frequently asked questions

Is knitting yarn the same as hand knitting yarn?

Similar fibres can be used, but machine knitting yarn is wound on cones for smooth feeding and its count is chosen by machine gauge. Hand knitting yarn is usually supplied in balls or skeins and chosen by needle or hook size.

How do I choose the right yarn count?

Choose it by machine gauge and target fabric weight. A knitting trial with samples gives the most reliable result.

Which knitting yarn is best for sweaters?

For winter knitwear, wool, acrylic and brushed or bouclé blends are common; for lighter seasons, cotton and viscose blends are preferred.
