What is brushed yarn?
Brushing (napping or raising) lifts the surface fibres with wire-covered rollers to create a fuzzy surface. When applied to the yarn itself, the result is a more voluminous, lighter and softer yarn that traps air and keeps warm, with a mohair-like halo.
Where is brushed yarn used?
- Winter knitwear: soft, warm surfaces on sweaters, cardigans and dresses.
- Hand knitting: shawls, scarves, beanies and blankets.
- Accessories and home textiles: capes, cushions and throws.
Care and handling tips
Wash at low temperature on a delicate cycle and dry flat to preserve the halo. Knitting with a needle one size larger helps the fibres bloom.
